Myanmar day 12: Bagan.

Submitted by maria on Wed, 18/09/2019 - 19:21

Breakfast on the hotel rooftop, buffet breakfast, the incredible views. We rented two electric motorcycles at the hotel, they don't give us helmets they say it's not necessary, in short the Asian security. The bikes have a range of about forty kilometers, they work quite well.

Bagan

Bagan plain

The Bagan plain is formed by more than 3,000 temples that began to be built in the eleventh century, are needed at least two days to travel, many of them have been rebuilt and some can no longer climb since the last earthquake.

Today we visit Old Bagan and the Northern Plain, although in the end we visit more areas, it is fascinating to get lost on the roads.

Our first stop leaves us speechless, Gubyauk Gyi is a small temple but inside they still have the original paintings, spectacular. There are food and water stands everywhere, also souvenirs and clothes.

We continue, Alodawpye Phaya. A man comes up to us and tells us that the ones behind the main one are more beautiful, the truth is that they have charm.

We stop at Ananda Pahto, one of the most beautiful and best preserved temples. It's huge, the whitewashed exterior as well as the interior. There are four Buddhas in four different rooms with huge teak doors, in the corridors that communicate the salts hundreds of Buddhas stand out on the walls. The patios surrounding the temple allow one to contemplate the majesty of the temple. Impressive.

Htilominio Pahto is interesting. We visited Thatbyinnyu Pahto, huge, one of the most important and highest. Near the Nathlaung Kyaung unique Hindu temple. Shwegugyi and Pitaka Taik are also worth a look.  Gawdawpalin Pahto spectacular.

We cross the Tharabar Gate ancient entrance to the walled city. Mahabodhi Paya.

Continue to Bupaya Pagoda, on the banks of the Ayeryawadi with cylindrical stupa. Near Pebinkyaung Paya.

We eat at a local family restaurant, the Misan. The restaurant is integrated in our own house. The traditional Burmese houses have a kitchen area, a prayer area and a rest area with mats on a wooden structure, in this one there is no lack of a flat screen TV. The food is delicious, the man goes for a few beers to a nearby stall. We take a nap in a hammock and a bench, the man is delighted, we make him very funny.

Moving on, Khayminga Temple. Manuha Paya near Myinkaba, the Buddhas seem not to fit inside the structure.

My favorite Dhammayangyi Pahto, spectacular inside and outside and its history. It's beautiful.

Sulamani Pahto also impressive.

You have to be careful with the bikes on the dirt roads as there is a lot of sand and it is easy to skid.

For the sunset we go up to the Amenaged view point, the spectacular views. It is full of Spaniards and street vendors, a bit flattering to say the least but funny.
