Our van leaves at 9:30 a.m. It's full of locals, there's overbooking. So we get approached by another agency on a motorcycle with our backpacks on.

We get up at dawn to see what is known as TAK BAT, the procession of the monks going around various points of the city asking for alms.

We try to get up at dawn to see the monks but we don't have the strength. We have to meet the jumbo jet at 9.30 a.m. so we take the opportunity to go to the morning market to see it and have breakfast.
Morning market
We have breakfast, buy some croissants, fruit, sandwiches and drinks for the boat and go to the pier. This time we only wait two hours for the boat to leave.
Women in Pak Beng
We got up at 7:00 in the morning. We have breakfast in the restaurant on the left side of the Guest. They put a whole baguette for each of us and local coffee, it's a bit weak but it was delicious.
Huay Xai pier
We arrive in Chiang Rai at Terminal 1 at 6 am, it's pouring with rain. We take a tuk tuk to change terminal (at 2) to get to Chiang Khong.
We get on a wooden bus inside, it's very cool as well as old. We take a tuk tuk to get to the Mekong river, we have to cross it by boat to get to Laos.
We arrive at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport at 2 pm, we have two options to reach the northern border with Laos, either a flight to Chiang Rai and then take a bus to the border or take a bus from Bangkok.
We leave from Burgos to Madrid Barajas Adolfo Suárez Airport at 18.50, we have a stopover in Frankfurt of just one hour.
