Indonesia day 16: south coast of Lombok.

Submitted by maria on Sun, 21/06/2015 - 18:27

We have breakfast at the hostel and a swim in the pool. We rent motorbikes in the accommodation itself, we are recommended to come back during the day to avoid problems.

The first thing we do is put gasoline, we buy it from a lady who sells it to us in a glass bottle. We want to ride along the coast, first we head west to Selong Belanak. The roads are quite steep but well paved. The landscape is impressive, rice fields, water oxen, small villages, mountains, jungle...

At the crossing of the main road there is an unofficial "control" to get to the beach, you have to pay a toll of 10,000 IDR per motorbike to avoid problems (according to what we were informed at the hostel if you don't pay it, your motorbike might be scratched or stolen).

Selong Belanak is a beautiful beach with white sand and cerulean waters, so swimming is a must. There are people practicing surfing although the sea is quite calm.

We stop at a viewpoint to see the beach of Mawi. Our next stop is Teluk Mawan, here we pay in the parking lot. It's a beautiful beach with a huge and leafy tree in the middle, beautiful. We took a coconut for 10,000 IDR.

On the way back we pass Kuta again and head for the eastern beaches. We stop at Tanjung Aan, an idyllic beach with a horseshoe shape, white sand and turquoise waters.

We eat at the Sama Sama, as we have not entered the beach directly, we save the toll. We eat cheaply and very rich although they take a long time.

We rent a board and a paddle to practice paddle board. It's a lot of fun. It is a pity the amount of plastic that we throw to the sea, when the tide lowers we realize the dimensions, an authentic sea of plastic.

We go back to Kuta and stop to get gas again, this time we are attended by an old woman who wanted to charge us more than the previous reseller, who is hard to negotiate, heh heh. We return the bike and take a bath in the pool.
